Là Fhèill Brìghde: Bonus Poetry Post

A special Là Fhèill Brìghde edition of poetry, song, and story connected to both this week's article, and the holiday itself.

A chàirdean còire, Là Fhèill Brìghde shona dhuibh!/ dear friends, happy Brighid's Feast Day (Imboc) to ye!

As we are at this juncture of the year, admittedly my most favourite and my favourite fire-festival as well, I thought it would be a nice week to share some poetry. Brighid is a patroness of poetry after all!

Below you will find a poem that I wrote, a song written by Rachel Walker for Margaret Fay Shaw, and lyrics to a folk song that Margaret took down in Uist that I was most recently privileged enough to learn from Professor Christine Primrose. At the end, for a bit of extra fun, I have also included two links to information about traditional Imbolc poems/rhymes and traditions in Scotland- including a very interesting rhyme collected by Alexander Carmichael from the infamous Flora MacDonald, and an article by the professor mentioned in the other post this week. Synchronicity abounds!

With the exception of my own poem, I do not own the copyrights to these pieces or the photograph; I am simply sharing them for educational (and inspirational) purposes.

Nevertheless, I hope they will prove to be inspiring as wee offerings at the fire for this most special occasion.
